Artist – Marie Asplund

Marie Asplund is a Swedish circus artist specialising in aerial silks and contortionism.

Biography

At the age of twelve, Marie encountered aerial silks for the first time during a circus workshop in her home, Bohuslän (SE). She was immediately hooked and decided to set up silks in her living room, which kept the dream of a future as a circus artist alive. At 16, she moved to Stockholm to begin her education at Cirkusgymnasiet, where she started to realise her dream.

Today, Marie has worked as a circus artist for several years and has finished a bachelor's in circus at Stockholm University of the Arts. Marie has worked as both an artist and a pedagogue with us and for others, such as Cirkus Nikolajeff (SE), Brocante Festival (IT), and Norrköpingsungdomscirkus (SE).

Marie is inspired by the connection between her body and the silks – a relationship she describes as a combination of strength and fragility, flexibility and delicacy.
