Dansgymnasiet

Upper Secondary School of Street Dance

  • Botkyrka put Swedish hip hop on the map. Now we’re putting the dancers of the future on stage. In autumn 2026, we’re launching the red line’s only arts programme specialising in street dance.

  • Street Dance on the Timetable

Dive into breaking, popping, locking, house and hip hop while earning your university eligibility.

In autumn 2026, we’re launching the only arts programme in dance along the red line – with a focus on street dance. You’ll gain a solid foundation, develop your own style, learn about the cultural sector and start building your international network.

Dansgymnasiet is run in a collaboration between Cirkus Cirkör and S:t Botvids Gymnasium. Roughly half the day is spent on academic subjects at S:t Botvid in Hallunda – the other half you’ll train at Cirkör House in Alby. The programme, of course, is university preparatory.

A beloved child has many names – in official records, you'll find Dansgymnasiet under "estetiska programmet i dans".

  • Why Dance in a Circus Hall?

Cirkörhuset is home to the largest circus hall in Northern Europe. For you as a student at Dansgymnasiet, that means you’ll not only have mirrors and dance floors – but also access to a tumbling floor, two foam pits and safety lines for practising high flips and lifts. The building also includes changing rooms, a sauna, and a fully equipped gym.

The environment at Cirkör House, together with the teaching and teachers in your courses, offers a strong entry point into the international performing arts world. Here, professional acrobats from around the globe train alongside you and the students from Cirkusgymnasiet. During your school years, you start building the connections you’ll need — both in the training hall and through the school’s collaborations with the industry.

  • First Year

In the first year, we focus on the fundamentals of street dance and on building the strength and stamina needed to train every day. You’ll be introduced to both old school and new school styles, as well as the foundations of hip hop. We also work a lot on strength, flexibility, and injury prevention.

Together with the students of Cirkusgymnasiet, you’ll also get an introduction to the world of acrobatics, helping you master handstands, flips, and lifts.

  • Second Year

In the second year, we continue developing dance technique and dive deeper into the five street dance styles: breaking, popping, locking, house, and hip hop. We also touch on other contemporary dance forms, while keeping our main focus on street dance. During the spring term, we explore dance as a performing art, ensemble work, and the encounter with the audience.

In the dance theory course, which runs throughout all three years, we watch performances, go on study visits, and discuss the history of hip hop.

  • Third Year

In the third year, the focus is on your future as a dancer – you’ll develop your own methods for continuing to train, create, and grow beyond the school environment in a sustainable and enjoyable way. We also work with artistic creation and the choreographic process. You might even use your final project to create a solo piece to bring with you to auditions after graduation.

By the time you leave school, you’ll be equipped with everything you need to begin your career as a professional dancer – or to continue your studies at university in an entirely different field.

  • Courses & Credit Structure

At S:t Botvids Gymnasium, you’ll study your academic subjects – such as English, History and Mathematics. At Cirkör House, you’ll take your dance classes.

By the time graduation rolls around, you’ll have both broad dance expertise and a strong daily training practice. You’ll have worked with professional performing artists, gained insight into how the cultural sector operates, and started building the network you’ll need to continue your journey in the international world of dance.

If you choose a different path, you’ll enter adult life with a toolbox full of creativity, initiative, and complete university eligibility.
